What are the symbols of Seoul. Are you ever thought about it?
I have spent a lot of time thinking about what the symbols of Seoul might be. This led me to reconsider what a symbol truly is. The dictionary defines a symbol as "a concrete object that represents an abstract concept or thing; such as a sign, symbol, or item used to signify something." Even without strictly adhering to the dictionary definition, a symbol ultimately raises the question of how something can be represented.
When you arrive in Seoul, you see numerous apartments.
Apartments, which are particularly prevalent in Seoul, have brought many advantages to the cityβs living environment and systems. They are safe, convenient, and efficient. The extensive apartment complexes have played a significant role in the development of fast and convenient food delivery and courier services in Seoul. They have also contributed to Seoul becoming a city known for its excellent waste separation practices, enabling a clean and hygienic urban lifestyle.
However, it hasn't been all positive. The uniformity of this housing type has led to a standardization of thought and culture, encouraging a society accustomed to comparison. This has contributed to the rapid cycling of trends and a reduced tolerance for things that are perceived as slow or inconvenient. Apartments, already a symbol of capitalist aspirations in Seoul, have long been objects of desire for many residents. You can often determine the price of a home by knowing the block and apartment brand, making transactions possible without a physical visit because they are often so similar.
In this way, apartments significantly influence both the visible and invisible aspects of Seoul. However, I think it is insufficient to define Seoul solely by its apartments.
Korea's country code (+82) came to mind.
Coincidentally, the expression "빨리 빨리" ("ppalli ppalli"), which is frequently used in Seoul and often reflects the behavior of its people, sounds like the numbers "82 82" in Korean. This similarity in pronunciation has led to "82 82" being used to convey the same meaning of "hurry up" or "quickly.β
Therefore, if I were to think of a concept that represents Seoul, the word "빨리 (ppalli)" or "quickly" would be quite fitting. Additionally, when making international calls to Korea, the country code is (+82). It's fascinating to see such an interesting coincidence.
Furthermore, the "+" in the country code can be seen as representing an abundance of premium qualities in Seoul, though it also highlights areas where there is an excess. The city is known for its fast administrative services and a wide range of on-demand services, such as emergency response and after-sales support, all just a phone call away. Seoul is indeed a very fast-paced and convenient city.
I have gathered these thoughts and decided that the symbol of Seoul is the "(+82) apartment.
Now, let's review the concepts and issues related to Seoul that we have discussed. Of course, there may be many areas that need improvement, so if you have any thoughts or questions, please feel free to leave your comments and opinions on the board below. you are always welcome.
